Martial Arts Safety Procedures- The following procedures are designed to ensure the safety of students and instructors during class. It is the responsibility of the instructors to inform students of these procedures and to see that they are enforced. It is the responsibility of the student to adhere to these procedures and to any other rules regarding safety and behavior.
- All classes will start with appropriate warm up exercises (i.e. Stretching). This will help prevent muscle and joint injury.
- While learning and performing kicking and hand striking techniques (without a partner), instructors will stress the importance of good form and precision. This will help avoid accidental falls or strain caused by unsafe practice.
- A safety mat will be used while practicing falling techniques or self-defense techniques that include a take down.
- While teaching self-defense techniques instructors will stress the importance of control and will demonstrate the proper amount of pressure to be used by students when working with each other or with instructors.
- Students must inform instructors of any injury or pain, regardless of how small they may think it is.
- Instructors will enforce the No-Horseplay rule during class. Many accidental injuries can be avoided by simply following the etiquette rules of a classroom.
- Students that use inhalers or ant other type of health related items must have them accessible during class.
Like any sport or physical activity there is always a possibility of injury. If a student is injured they will immediately be escorted to the office where they will receive appropriate first aid. If necessary, parents will be contacted.
